About Me
My name is Matt Carson and I am asking for your vote this November for Virginia’s House of Delegates.
I was born and raised in Virginia and I truly love this state; I love her history, her mountains and hills, her seasons, and her people. It is for these reasons that I am running for Virginia’s House of Delegates. It is for these reasons that I want to bring Virginia back to her place of honor — as a Patriot Act free state, as a fiscally responsible state, as a state where laws infringing on the inalienable rights of individuals are not tolerated, and as a state that respects her rivers and her land.
I am running as an Independent candidate because I believe the responsibility of actions or inactions should rest on the individual – instead of being leveled as blanket charges against Republicans or Democrats as a whole. The system too often puts people in a box where they are expected to tow the party line on every issue. I know few private citizens for whom that is the case. We need people elected based on their character, their principles, and their ability to make sound and reasonable judgments on behalf of the people they serve. The weight of political decisions and actions should rest on the names of our elected officials rather than scapegoating an entire party – or expecting that a party title determines a person’s feelings on every issue.
I have to believe that there is a different way to do politics. I am an ordinary citizen, business owner, son, brother, husband, and father. I have no aspirations for national politics. My heart is in Virginia and my passion is for grassroots community organizations – and for the kinship and unity that living in community is intended to establish. I love the state of Virginia and am proud to live among the fine people here.
I will not be accepting donations from any large companies (those with more than 50 employees) or PACS. If I am given the honor of serving the 30th district I want to enter our Capital with a clear conscience owing only those whom I serve. This is a true grass roots campaign and I do need your help. I need you to talk to your friends and family about my candidacy. If you feel like this is the right way to do politics, and if I am the candidate you choose, I ask you to make your own signs, hand out some of our brochures, talk to anyone who will listen, even get a tattoo (if you’re so inclined). It is past the time when the ordinary man deserves an opportunity be heard without needing to play the game of politics. We can elect one another for office --- but we all need to be on board and invest in our future by using our time and our talent to move our communities and our state forward.
